Technical Support for Component Source products should be obtained from Component Source themselves using one of the methods detailed above. Do not call Future Publishing for queries concerning this software as we cannot give any advice on these products.
You should also note that some of these components require programs or files that aren't included, such as Visual Basic. As these files are designed for programmers, you shouldn't be running these components unless you have some programming environments installed.
Known Issue: The Protoview section assumes that you have some shared files on your machine, but if you haven't and are asked for the Shared.Zip, you can find the relevant files in the Componen\Protvw folder on this CD-ROM. There is a Readme file in that folder explaining about the files. You should only use these files if you have trouble using the controls.
On this Working Model issue of ComponentSource you will find demonstrations, technical specifications, retail help files and encrypted full retail versions of a handful of software components for visual development tools. Each month the very latest versions are scoured for the best available and brought to you exclusively on the PC Plus disc. There's also a full product from the range included each month.
The FULL version of ComponentSource, available free of charge to software developers, contains hundreds of products. If you find the Working Model of use and would like the FULL version, just call +44 (0) 118 958 1111 or register via our web site http://www.componentsource.co.uk. To buy and unlock any product on the CD simply call our sales hotline of +44 (0) 118 958 1111 and within minutes you will be using the products you need. To correctly view the contents of the CD you must first install the ComponentSource Browser, described below.
Depending on which system files you already have installed, you will need on average approximately 5Mb of disk space on the drive that contains your Windows System directory and another 5Mb of disk space on the drive where you choose to install the program files. An INSTALL.LOG file will be created after completion of the installation and will contain a list of all files that were copied onto your system. Please DO NOT delete this file as it is needed by the the UnInstall program, should you choose to run it. ComponentSource does not modify your WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files in any way. Dynamic link libraries and custom controls are copied to your Windows System directory. Older versioned or earlier dated files are copied to the backup directory you specified during the installation process. The installation program does not overwrite later versioned, later dated system files. Should you wish to obtain a list of files included in the installation kit or would like to manually extract any files contained within it, run SETUP.EXE located in the \INFO directory with the "/X" command line parameter. You will find a full list of files together with file date, time and size information. You will find other useful utilities in the \UTILITY directory:- Internet Explorer 3.0 and Video for Windows.
From the ComponentSource Program Group or Start Menu, select the ComponentSource CD icon and the CD browser will run. In order to use this issue of ComponentSource you must first have installed it as described above.
Run 'ComponentSource UnInstall' from the ComponentSource Program Group. Alternatively, locate the directory where you first installed ComponentSource, normally, C:\Program Files\CSource on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 or C:\CSource on Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.51, and run the program, UNWISE.EXE.
The Uninstall program reads the INSTALL.LOG file, also found in this directory, that was previously created by the SETUP process.
Uninstall gives you a choice of what you would like to remove. We recommend that you use the 'Automatic' option. Please remember, that if you choose to manually remove files and you remove shared files from Windows System, you may find other programs that require them, stop working.
Problem - When running CSSETUP.EXE another program is loaded in memory, such as The MSOffice Shortcut bar, and SETUP may conflict with one of its in-memory DLLs. If at this point the CSSETUP is aborted, there is a chance that the other application ceases to function correctly, erroring with 'UNDEFINED CALL TO DYNALINK'.
Resolution - Remove any items from the STARTUP group, restart Windows and rerun the ComponentSource SETUP.EXE. Once installed correctly the problem is rectified.
Problem - SETUP went through OK but get 'Error loading from file' or 'Object not found' when running the CD browser for the first time.
Resolution - The OCX's needed by the CD browser are not correctly registered in the system registry. The program REG16.BAT (for 16bit machines) or REG32.BAT (for 32bit machines), found in the CD's HELPME\REGISTER directory, will register them correctly for you. To run REG16.BAT or REG32.BAT just double click it from either File Manager or Windows 95 Explorer. Several dialog boxes appear giving the status of each file registration. If any of the registrations fail, please call ComponentSource on +44 (0) 118 958 1111.
Problem - On Win311, if you do not have an Internet browser on your machine, ComponentSource will run the 16bit Microsoft Internet Explorer. The first time this is run it works fine but subsequently an error occurs if the option was selected to make it the default browser.
Resolution - When running the Internet explorer for the first time select 'No' when asked if you would like to make the explorer your default browser.
